Cars

To a large extent, our lifestyle is influenced by the car. Where people built their homes, buy food, seek recreation and locate businesses is based on easy access by passenger car or truck.

Cars and trucks are unique machines. They enable us to get in and go almost anywhere in a moment’s notice. A car enables us to travel in comfort. A car lets us alight as near to our  destination as possible.

The car underwent many changes in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Changes in design and the introduction of new technology were brought about by a concern with safety and pollution. The bodies and engines were made smaller and lighter to save gasoline. Researchers worked on alternatives to the gasoline engine and fuel efficient transportation.

The car is a mixed blessing. Although it has its merits, it has its negative aspects too. Since so many people own cars, massive traffic jams are inevitable. The exhaust from cars pollutes the air. Each year, a large number of people are injured or killed in road accidents.
